The Rays announced Monday they will make a $10,000 donation to Save the Children to benefit the Japan Earthquake Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund. Meanwhile, the team will match up to $15,000 more in donations made by fans to Red Cross volunteers at the April 1-3 opening weekend series at Tropicana Field.
“Hey, this is a very important part of the baseball season, Spring Training, so we can’t really look too far ahead of what we’re doing right now,” Shoppach said. “It’s important — I know [it is] for me — to have these at-bats now and get these things right. I’m excited about this season, absolutely. I’m excited about playing today.”
I was really impressed with Shoppach’s intensity last night. He had a solo home run (his 3rd HR of Spring Training) to tie the score 1-1, and also had 3 solid pick-off attempts, even if he only converted one for an out. One pick-off attempt Shoppach had him out by a long shot but Brignac could not hold onto the ball to make the tag.
He just seems like a different Shoppach than the 2010 Shoppach, so obviously this makes me happy.
“I feel like he’s a better pitcher than I am. He uses more stuff in different spots. He’s going to throw a 3-and-1 changeup. He’s going to keep hitters a lot more off-balance than I am throwing fastball after fastball.”—David Price on Jeremy Hellickson (via yami85)
